Notes from the breeder:

When we first offered this cross we were testing how our high flower count velutina would behave in breeding.  Here is the description from 2020:  “Mark Jones (C. Caudebec x C. Fascelis) is a full shaped flower with surprisingly wide petals for a spotted hybrid. The upright stems carry 7-9 well arranged flowers, the blooms are a light cream color, with dark amethyst spots and a broad red lip. This velutina is considered the most floriferous example of the species in modern history, and the 24 flowers are more than twice the number expected from this species. The flowers have undulated segments, are bronze-yellow, with random burgundy spots and the wide lip is veined dark purple. The shape and colors make this unusual species spectacular.  This is SVO’s first cross with velutina, and we are hoping to increase flower count. The flowers will be spotted and the lips striped red.  Will this cross do what I hoped?” After seeing how the first plants bloomed, we quickly remade it. This is a good one!
