Notes from the breeder:

This is a new breeding direction: compact Catts with spots and flares! The flower color and patterning are awesome. Penny Kuroda ‘Spots’ is one of the first important Cattleya hybrids with flared petals, and spotted sepals. It was cloned and widely distributed; we’ve had our plant for probably 25 years! It’s a tall grower with heads of 12-14 flowers - very impressive. Katherine Clarkson (C. Mark Jones x Slc. Jungle Gem) was the first grex to have 3-4 large, shapely, yellow flowers with bold red spots on a compact plant that flowers twice a year. The big question here is how dominant will the Penny Kuroda flaring be? We are hoping for well-rounded flower shapes, yellow flowers with bold spotting, red lips, and many plants having flowers with red flares on the petals and heads of 5-7 blooms! Lofty goals, but we believe in this cross.
